Explanation Writing.... Balloon Experiment.... We filled one balloon with water, and then blew up the balloon around it so that we had a water balloon inside an air filled balloon. We looked at the balloon and predicted what might happen when we threw it. We thought that the inner balloon would pop, or the balloon would just fall straight to the ground because it would be heavy.... The we got into small groups and passed that balloon around - like you can see in the photos! It turned out that the balloon flew through the air really well - a little too well - we couldn't catch it because it was so unpredictable! We then wrote our observations down - some of us even drew pictures. From these observations were able to write a short explanation about what was happening. We thought that the inner balloon had great momentum as it was heavy, and it propelled the outer balloon through the air, but as this happened it bounced around inside the outer balloon, making the flight of the balloon very unpredictable.
